The following examples were taken from previous tax sale listings. They show only a few of the properties which were listed by municipalities/townships. The examples show properties which were sold by either public tender or public auction. Our purpose in showing these is to help you see how tax sale properties are listed and described.

Example #1

Sale of Lands by Public Tender

The Corporation of the Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen

Take notice that tenders are invited for the purchase of the lands described below and will be received until 1:30 p.m. local time on Friday, June 12, 20__, at the Municipal Offices, R.R. #3, Havelock, Ontario, K0L 1Z0

The following general information applies to these sales

SALES OF LAND FOR TAX ARREARS BY PUBLIC TENDER

Tenders must be submitted in the prescribed form and must be accompanied by a deposit in the form of a money order or of a bank draft or cheque certified by a bank, trust company or Province of Ontario Savings Office payable to the municipality (or board) and representing at least 20 per cent of the tender amount.

The Municipality makes no representation regarding the title to or any other matters relating to the land to be sold. Responsibility for ascertaining these matters rests with the potential purchasers.

The sales are governed by the Municipal Act (2001) and the Municipal Tax Sales Rules made under that Act. The successful purchaser will be required to pay the amount tendered plus accumulated taxes and the relevant land transfer tax.

All amounts payable by the successful purchaser shall be payable in full at the time of the sale by cash or money order or by a bank draft or cheque certified by a bank, trust company or Province of Ontario Savings Office.
